Peer Sessions # 113 @ Chisenhale Gallery
Susanne Dietz // Chisenhale Crits programme workshop
7-9pm Weds 27th Nov 2024
Notes
Suzanne Dietz shared a recent film [work- in-progress] “Stones good for sucking” (2024) digital video, 16mm and Super8 to HD. The discussion began with observations about the choice of music and how the soundtrack affected the reading of the film. Many felt the stop motion animation and other elements lead to feelings of being alienation from the body. The use of the colour blue had associations with melancholy or drowning, which was emphasised by the enigmatic voiceover and text extracts from Maggie Nelson’s Bluets. The film is part of Susanne’s ongoing research project The Tightening, investigating hormonal decline, ageism, and dementia. Using the experience of menopause, it examines themes of memory and intimacy. This research has been evolving over the past two years.
The second half of the session was led by Seth Pimlott as an exploratory discussion about what kind of provision artists are seeking in the public programming of a gallery like Chisenhale. We were delighted to get so much rich and vital feedback, which will be digested over the coming weeks and months. More soon!
